Baby Premier 3D Baby Scans - Seeing is believing
What is a 3D baby scan?
A 3 dimensional scan (3D) is a still ultrasound image produced in colour (sepia) and shows the outer layers
of the fetus or organ being imaged. The movement of the fetus can be seen in real-time and this is the 4th
dimension (4D) of the ultrasound scan. This technology is used during our bonding scan and to give additional
information once a soft tissue anomaly has been detected, such as a cleft lip.
Seeing is believing...You know you have a baby on the way, but it’s still hard to believe. Just imagine how
wonderfully bonded you would feel if you could actually see your baby. Well now you do not have to imagine
with a Baby Premier 3D scan you really can see your baby.
How is a 3D seeing is believing scan performed?
Before the 3D baby scan your sonographer will perform a 2D scan to check your baby’s position in the womb,
heartbeat and general wellbeing. 2D scans are used to look at the internal organs. 3D baby scans are used to
look at the outer layer and show baby movements in real time.
Doppler is an ultrasound application used to assess blood flow within the cardiovascular system. This can be
visualised by using colour flow, where the blood fl ow is represented schematically with red and blue colours
on screen, or pulsed wave Doppler, which produces wave forms of blood flow on screen to be evaluated by
the sonographer. This is usually accompanied by the sound of flowing blood. A common use of Doppler is to
detect the blood flow in the umbilical cord of a fetus.
At your request we can also determine the gender of your baby. If you do not want to know this please let
your sonographer know at the start of the scan. We recommend 3D baby scans are perform between 26 – 32
weeks of pregnancy. This is generally the best time to capture detailed animated facial movements because
your baby will have put on weight and there is still enough space in the womb for your baby to move around.
With the expertise of our sonographers we have captured many precious moving images including;
waving | yawning | smiling | kicking | arm stretches | sleeping
What does the 3D image quality depend on?
• Your baby’s position
• Position of the placenta
• Amount of amniotic fluid around your baby
• Size of the mum-to-be
Preparing for and during your scan
• You will receive a confirmation letter and registration form
• Allow 35 – 40 minutes for your appointment
• It is not a necessity to arrive with a full bladder
• Occasionally we may ask you to go for a walk or drink some fluids if your baby is lying in an awkward position
