Baby Premier viability and dating scan - 6 - 18 weeks
What is a viability and dating scan? A Baby Premier viability and dating scan is performed between 6 - 18 weeks of pregnancy. This scan is
performed to confirm the viability of your pregnancy, how many weeks pregnant you are and can detect
multiple pregnancy (twins).
An anomaly scan is ideal for parents-to-be looking for reassurance or as a secondary option when earlier
screening tests have not been performed.
Viability and detection of abnormalities Viability is measured by checking your baby’s heartbeat and by checking the position in the uterus. At this
stage of pregnancy gross abnormalities are very difficult to detect so your sonographer will recommend an indepthBaby Premier anomaly scanwhich can be performed between 18 - 24 weeks.
Internal transvaginal scan We will first scan through your tummy (transabdominal) but on occasions it may be necessary for you to
have an internal transvaginal scan to give clearer images. A transvaginal scan involves a small probe gently
inserted into the vagina. Your sonographer will discuss this with you, if required, on the day of your scan.
